JapanelectioninAugust210709The Japanese Liberal Party (Lpd) is in crisis after 53 years of almost uninterrupted government. Today, the premier Taro Aso (pictured) has dissolved the Lower House of parliament and set the date for the next election to be held August 30. It will be, therefore, a summer of election campaign.

"I deeply apologize for not having achieved our objectives" Aso said to the leaders of the party but he has also directed a veiled accusations to those who have done everything, inside the Lpd, to break the coalition.
Despite polls showing that the Conservative Party is at risk defeat, the premier resigned has confirmed that he will continue to lead the coalition.
This element could help the Democratic Party to regain support. Yukio Hatoyama, leader of the Democratic Party, is well aware of this as to declare that "these elections are revolutionary".

Accustomed to Italian politicians who, after having obtained the worst results of any forecasts, never apologize to their constituents (even after big scandals), the choice of Aso to apologize in television for his mistakes can leave almost amazed.
The Japanese premier has, however, received support from the government and also the Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano, who at the beginning said to disappoint this choice, at the end signed the draft of the elections.
There were many elements that led to the early elections: from the heavy defeat of the Liberal Democrat Party (LDP) in the last administrative election for municipalities in Tokyo to the severe recession, with an economy in crisis and unemployment increasing.

Analysts and political scientists seeking to understand not only what the real reason for this choice of Aso is, but also which new landscapes will be open after the early elections. Someone has already managed to outline the changes that a victory of the Democratic Party would lead to the country: greater independence from the United States, a greater contribution of Japan to peace missions and reducing the role of government.
Elements that would change not only the Asian country, but will involve, inevitably, the international structures. Enough to follow with great interest the election campaign that will begin August 18.
