"The government will implement a long-term and hopefully final plan against the forces of evil, not only against widespread crime but also against organized crime." It's the new amazing promise of the President of the Council. Because now we know that Berlusconi is mostly a tv seller we'll take this news with some skepticism, partly because we have yet to see if will be maintained his latest amazing promises made to l'Aquila earthquake victims.
But it should be noted that this is the first time that our President of the Council made a so hard statement against the Mafia. Compared to the famous statement that Vittorio Mangano, a murderer and former groom of Arcore villa, was a hero because he didn't said anything against him to judges is a big change.
Maybe after the end of the love story with his wife Veronica now is also finishing his great friendship with Marcello Dell'Utri, currently on trial for external aid to mafia?
Statements on television, however, are always good for the sake of propaganda, such as those of the Minister Maroni that crime in Italy would have declined by 14% in 2008. All data to be verified, but if it were true it is unclear what this government have to do with it, given that so far the only security measure is the criminalization of undocumented immigrants, which in the vast majority are such only because of lack of a residence permit and not because they are truly criminals. Maroni said not to overdo criticism because he is not a Nazi, but the decree is a law that provides for the arrest and imprisonment of people who haven't done anything wrong apart from working illegaly, employed by Italian citizens. It is a measure that criminalizes an entire class of human beings simply for who they are, not for what they have done, and is therefore a measure racist and Nazist.
Since the security decree came into force a few days ago it seems difficult that can be credited with having reduced crime by 14% in the last year. Also because at the moment the only concrete fact implemented by this government on security is having cut funds to the police.

Minister Maroni also claims that in the Temporary Centers of Identification where the illegal immigrants should be locked up there are still 500 places. That was immediately denied by police unions, but even if there were places we don't understand how they could put there half a million illegal immigrants, since all italian centers could accommodate no more than 6,000 people. And here you can see a small detail: if the security decree is really applied fully, in Italy should be imprisoned up to half a million people. If this is not Nazism we don't know how else to call it.
But it is probably always the usual television propaganda show. It may be that crime really has fallen in the last year and there would be nothing strange. The average rate of crime fluctuates from year to year and often it's hard to understand why, could be just a reduction in complaints even in the absence of a real decrease in crime, but generally the italian crime rate is almost unchanged over the past two decades, despite the increase of immigration and television propaganda, politically motivated, saying otherwise, creating a security emergency that never existed.
Now it only remains to see if in the coming months the government will really do something concrete against the italian mafias. Give the necessary funds to the police would be a step forward. We will also see how the security decree will be applied and what the real data on crime are. But all this will be seen only in the web, because on italian television you see just government propaganda.
