It could have happen to almost all tourists visiting the Croatian coast to spend the evening admiring some island, or ruins on the beach, looking to invest their fortunes in a small corner of paradise. Now the dreams could be realized. Ok, not for every budget, you should just get in the bank more or less 2.5 billion. In a time of global economic crisis that is not a price affordable for everyone, but the billionaires around the world still exist. And Croatia needs to focus on them. According to the British newspaper "The Independent" (which has spread an article of "Il Piccolo" of Trieste) Croatia has decided to sell the Brioni Islands, an archipelago which is located about eight kilometers from the Istria coast, near Pula.
The archipelago comprises 14 islands included, since 1983, in a nature reserve. But if the news is true all the constraints of construction would probably fall to give new owners the opportunity to build.
Buyers could even be satisfied by buying only Brioni Grande island, for 1.2 billion euros. But if you decide to get the whole archipelago, in the end you will also be "lucky enough" to have Koki, the general Titus white parrot who arrived at the remarkable age of 52 years. The Marshal died, Yugoslavia now exist only on old maps, but the white bird is still there, to enjoy the park Brijuni.
And you will have not only this because the archipelago, that between 1921 and 1947 came under the jurisdiction of Italy, has also the remains of some Roman settlements and some fossils of dinosaur footprints.
If the only purpose of government is to make cash, then it's not a surprise that to forget a downturn in foreign investment by 42% or the accession to the European Union that is becoming increasingly complicated, Zagreb has decided to sell even other interesting places. For example, the Janaf, the pipeline that goes from the island of Veglia (Krk) and its terminal in the sea around Castelmuschio (Omisalj) climbs to the Continental Croatia coming up north to the Hungarian territory and East up to the Serbian . And yet, insurance companies, railroads, energy companies, shipyards, sources of drinking water and the forest land: everything seems up for sale to try to "bring cash" after the highly contested cuts of salaries and pensions of latest times.
The news on the sale of these paradises was soon all over the world and, according to the czech national radio, President Stjepan Mesic has said that the Brioni Islands are a National Park and their sale, even if the Government decides in that effect, it would be hampered by the Croatian Parliament.
At this point, we can only prepare for a vacation on the spot to investigate the archipelago better in person and see how things are. Well, maybe we won't have 2.5 billion available immediately, but we could dream of having some island in our hands.
