Many people were talking about this, but only today there was the formalization: the Brazilian Bruno Senna, nephew of the unforgettable three-time world champion Ayrton, next year will make his Formula 1 debut at the wheel of newborn Campos Meta team. The Spanish team is one of the new team that have joined the team association of Formula 1.
"For Campos Meta is an extraordinary honor to give back the name of Senna to Formula One," said Enrique Rodriguez de Castro, executive director of the team. The young Brazilian, who had anticipated the news yesterday on his Twitter page, has confirmed the news with a brief statement: ''I want to thank everyone. After weeks of negotiations, we finally managed to strike a deal.'' He then simply said "I'm happy, but now I have much work to do."
Who, however, is really happy about this news, especially for the eco media will give to the news and for the certain growth of the public who will come back to follow Formula One, is Bernie Ecclestone. He has also advanced a hypothesis that could be achieved: to see another Brazilian on the track, Nelsinho Piquet, son of Nelson (also a winner of three world championship as Ayrton Senna). Nelsinho, now, is more famous for the scandal that fired Flavio Briatore than for exceptional ability.
Bruno Senna, born in 1983, started to drive the kart when he was just 8 years old. But after May 1, 1994, when his uncle Ayrton died during the San Marino GP at Imola, in the same weekend that cost the Austrian Roland Ratzenberger his life, the family forced him to quit.
Ten years later, Bruno Senna came back to the world of speed, first with the Formula BMW and then he went on until the GP2. He already had to race for Honda in the 2009 season, but then the Japanese team withdrew and nobody asked for Senna, anymore.
Today the story has changed. Bruno Senna enters in Formula 1 and despite his reserve and his great ability, he will inevitably have to deal with a very cumbersome shadow.
