frase scritta su un muroIt isn't normal that the italian government changes the rules on the electoral rolls as it pleases to remedy the serious irregularities committed by the ruling parties. It is not normal a prime minister on trial for corruption, which was saved from prison because he put his lawyers in Parliament to make laws for him. It is not normal the censorship of television programs because the government does not want journalists to talk about Berlusconi's scandals and trials.

It isn't normal that there are people who have the courage to say that censorship is the fault of the censored, because they would be too partisan, when in fact the government simply does not tolerate that a few journalists continue to tell the truth despite the many threats to remain silent. None of this is normal and every citizen who has not yet fallen into this deep sleep of reason that is Italy today should repeat it every morning in the mirror. Because life goes on normally for many of us and is easy to forget that we are losing democracy, freedom and the very future of this country.
It isn't normal that so many italians are unemployed, precarious jobs are widespread, and workers, besides the last attack on work law, completely devoid of guarantees. It isn't normal a government that decides to build nuclear power plants, incinerators, or high-speed rail disregarding the will of the citizens. It isn't normal a non-existent opposition, unable to have an alternative and clear proposal and unable to stand up. None of this is normal. But we must remember that millions of people in Italy now think that all this is normal.
Normal a prime minister who considers women only bodies to be exploited at will. Normal a prime minister suspected of complicity with the Mafia. Normal a country that stand on corruption and cronyism. Normal that some members of the police think they can torture and kill with impunity in the streets or in prisons.
All this isn't normal.
It isn't normal to continue in our name a war in Afghanistan without any real reason, only the war for the war. It is not normal that there are people who die while attempting to cross our borders or are rejected, even if they are refugees asking for asylum rights. When things like that happened during the Berlin Wall, the West protested indignantly, but now everything is normal in our Fortress Europe.
It isn't normal that racism grows and becomes daily routine.
We must remember that all this has nothing to do with normality, because too many young Italians are now grown up in this "normality" and this is the "normality" in Berlusconi regime's televisions. And if we forget that all this is rather unacceptable, absurd and wrong, then everything is lost. Remembering the truth is a moral duty in this long night of unified networks lies.
