A planned expenditure of 16 billion euros to buy 131 JSF fighter-F35: about 270 euros per person for all citizens, including newborn babies. To play war, we know, they always find the money. Even when they don't have it to fund social measures in times of crisis. But then the purchase of these aircraft is not just an italian matter, but concerns all the NATO and was planned years ago.
In fact the agreement for the purchase of the planes was signed by the Prodi government and the first decision was taken by the D'Alema government back in 1998. At the time of the Prodi government, the so-called radical left was crucified many times in italian newspapers and television because they dared to oppose the refinancing of the mission in Afghanistan and the increase in military spending, even if those decisions were a clear violation of the program on which that government had been elected. Opposing it was only right under the Constitution, in case anyone still remember the article 11 which clearly says that Italy repudiates offensive war. An article on which, at the time, everyone agreed. Pacifism was the heritage of the left as of Catholics.Today is the opposite, is the war the heritage of all italian political forces. So today everyone agrees that making a commitment until 2026 to produce combat aircraft is a fantastic idea, although even the U.S. Senate is concerned about the costs, which continue to rise.
The problem is that in the Western nations, military lobbies are powerful and widely supported by politicians, and then media never tell exactly what they're doing. Indeed, the italian pacifist campaign in recent days against the absurd purchase of these aircraft has been quietly ignored by nearly all of the media and even on the web has a much smaller space than it deserves, simply because the population lacks the sensitivity to understand what would be important information and to oppose decisions that are made in a completely undemocratic way.
Because the industry of war march happily side by side with its main ally, the oil and gas industry. What kind of world would boost the already enormous profits of the men who dominate these industries? A world that continues to pollute, that continues to fight for oil, a world increasingly devastated by climate change ready to rush into war for survival, fought with terrible weapons. The secret dream of those who govern the world behind the scenes, the most terrible nightmare of humanity.
