nohouseforAquila_250909After six months, the tent camps, in L'Aquila, will be closed. The government is celebrating, believing they had reached a milestone, because it had promised "houses ready by the end of September." But the closure of tent camps does not necessarily mean a roof over the head for L'Aquila citizens or the heat of four walls, especially now the cold is coming.

The reconstruction of the city is far from being achieved. Politicians, for their part, seem almost to have forgotten the tragedy of L'Aquila and they return to the region only for the festivities, smiling for the cameras. The schools are not ready, the project for new houeses never arrives, the tent are closing now and the policy of depopulation is devastating communities.
Even the previous Irpinia and Umbria earthquakes have not been able to teach something. Many proclamations, advertisements, and then, today, what remains to L'Aquila people?
Some house was built and then given to families. But as often happens in Italy, the allocation criteria were not included. So the Rete "3 and 32" reference of the Citizens' Committee, is ready to challenge the allocation list of shelters.
They could appeal to the TAR (the administrative regional Court) but this might prolong the time for the deadline, if the Administrative Court should grant a stay of proceedings. Of course, common and civil protection would have to revise the list but in the meantime about fifteen thousand people will have to deal with the delays that inevitably follow.

The houses allocated to date, however, were for five thousand families. But families in the middle of a street are much more. "Only 2,900 people will enter the houses after 29 September.said Enzo Blundo, (citizens for citizens committee).- But 28 thousands people are waiting for a house for the winter: they were all living in a house on the "E" zone.
So, ten thousand people have lived, in recent months, in tents, now will be in the middle of the street thanks to the closure of tent camps. The government spot "from the tents to houses," however, cannot be deleted. Now that it's in motion, it must go forward.
Twelve tent camps have already been dismantled and now they will proceed with the others, with people who understandably do not want to go to another temporary residence. In five days, the dismantling will be completed.
People are getting upset and on September 29th they will demonstrate against the government, on the same day Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will attend the ceremony of the first houses in Bazzano.
A protest march that will try to go in XX Settembre street, a symbol of this earthquake.
