The italian security decree that criminalize undocumented immigrants is in force since a few days and we already see the first big accomplishments of this wonderful law: a Bengali immigrant called the police to arrest three robbers and was in turn denounced as illegal. Security is therefore encouraging honest immigrants not to denounce the criminals.
Or three immigrants finished off the road by car, are helped and then one of them arrested and two others denounced because illegals. This too is security, to encourage foreigners to flee from accidents and not provide relief. Then there is the case of a young woman arrested in front of the town hall when he was about to marry an Italian. She now will be expelled. Another great success for security, who knows what terrible crimes she was planning after the wedding. Meanwhile, while the racial law hit randomly innocent people who have never committed any crime but are now treated as criminals, some people consider this great decree a license to beat and attack immigrants, and they aren't wrong. In fact, if a beaten undocumented immigrant complains he would be in turn denounced and arrested by the police, so he will not do it. This is security, private patrols and racism unpunished.
Temporary Identification Centers (CIE) in the meantime are next to collapse, like that of Ponte Galeria in Rome, where occurs beatings against those who complain and living conditions are terrible.
In the Gradisca CIE already there was a rebellion, while in several other cases for organizational problems or lack of places in the centers, undocumented immigrants are simply released shortly after their arrest. The justices of the peace don't have the slightest idea of how they will dispose of all the forthcoming trials.
It's always the same way in which law works in Italy: they adopt rules impossible to apply with only the intention to scare. The result is to hit and punish some people who haven't done anything wrong, but mostly will simply be impossible to prosecute, arrest and expel one million undocumented immigrants. People who are so only because in Italy it's easier to find an illegal work than a legal one. In the meantime, illegal immigration has not stopped and certainly will not stop as if by magic. The only way to control immigration would be to give workers the opportunity to regularize their work and live with dignity.
Criminalize all of them will have instead terrible consequences. Unpunished aggression and the inability to contact the police will surely push undocumented immigrants to take justice into their own hands. They will have to live hidden and they will never go to hospitals, with the danger of spreading serious diseases even among the Italian population. The Cie and the prisons will burst. The courts will be clogged. The real criminals will easily hide among a mass of people who have been criminalized by law.
How can all this be good for the security of Italians?
