Alarm clocks in BarcelonaThe Copenhagen summit on climate change, expected in December, would be a historic opportunity to stop global warming, now that the United States under the Obama presidency have a much greater sensitivity than in previous years and even China seems ready to do something. The negotiations, however, proceed very slowly: in Barcelona have just finished the last preparatory meetings, with little results.

African countries have boycotted the meeting because they rightly ask rich countries, major world polluters, a much greater commitment. In the United States the law that should limit emissions goes forward with much difficulty and the boycott of the Republican minority, and already we know that will not be approved in its final form until January, then after the summit in Copenhagen. If in the meantime, if the U.S. Congress does not reach an agreement in principle is very likely that in December the United States will be unwilling to sign any binding agreement, and this would be a likely failure with another long delay before actually start doing something.
Meanwhile, environmental groups around the world continue their campaigns to ask world leaders to take a clear binding commitment to reduce carbon emissions and avoid future disasters. In addition to the UN campaign "Seal the Deal", and after the event "350" on 24 October, has now started the campaign Tck Tck Tck, the sound of clocks to remind the powerful of the Earth that the time to do something practical and truly effective will expire. Small green alarm clocks indeed have been brought to the meetings in Barcelona to remind those responsible for negotiating the importance of acting quickly.
"Don't Nuke the Climate", it's another European initiative to demand that nuclear power is not used in place of renewable energy to reduce pollution. Although nuclear plants produce no carbon dioxide as oil and coal, still they produce radioactive waste, a dangerous form of pollution that so far has always been disposed very badly, especially in Italy.
In the world enviromental organizations are preparing various events and initiatives for the appointment of Copenhagen in December 7 to 18, particularly in the days of global initiatives on 12 December, but in Italy the public is rather cold on the issue and the government has not the slightest ecological sensitivity. As if all this does not concern us at all. Who wins with oil and pollution, those who deny the very existence of global warming (almost always because they have friends or lenders in the oil industry) and those who are completely uninterested in the question are actually a single alliance to destroy our planet. The danger affects all while continuing to pollute is an interest of a few. It's time to understand that and to wake up, better sooner than too late.
