The Festival was born in 1971 from an idea of eighteen Claudio Gubitosi (still artistic director), and over the years it made young people the real protagonists of the event. The jurors (from all over the world) are, in fact, strictly under 21 and they are concerned to see the film and discuss it with directors, author and performers of topical issues. And guys are the target of the Festival as well as jury of films proposed.
The idea was original if today, at almost 40 years later, continues to be successful and has allowed a small town of Campania to make what was a regional event, an event of international scope.
At 7 p.m., shortly after the opening ceremony, there will be a screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which will be in cinema since July 15th, distributed by Warner Bros.
But the grown wizard won't be the only important appointment of GFF. The 2800 jurors, from 3 to 21 years from 39 countries and 150 cities, would, in fact, judge the films in competition on the theme of the year, "Tabù". For them will be screened 30 feature films and 42 shorts in competition, 73 films out of competition and 25 special events. In the special events there is not only Harry Potter (for which on 11 pm there will be a second screening accessible only by reservation) but also Ice Age 3 - Dawn of the dinosaurs, the third chapter of the popular cartoon that is proposed in 3D, in world premiere.
