Many people stayed for a day in front of the RAI (the italian public television) headquarters in Viale Mazzini asking for a live tv news, requested by the TG3, of the No-B day, the demonstration against Silvio Berlusconi. The director of the tv news, Bianca Berlinguer, had asked to broadcast the event with connections and services from the square, but in the end the General Director, Mauro Masi, said no. The only Italian television covering the event will be a satellite one, Rainews24.
Saturday's demonstration in Rome against Silvio Berlusconi, is, above all, the first event, in Italy, self-summoned in internet thanks to bloggers and Facebook fans. And despite some political parties have claimed their proximity to the event, those who have organized it, have alway wished, until now, to stay away from political labels.
But the ambitions for this day remains very high. It is also demonstrated by the choice of place of the event: Piazza San Giovanni. A great square, the historical symbol of the events of the left parties and of the concert on the 1st of May (labor day). According to organizers, "in the square there will be three hundred and fifty thousand people", 700 bus will be arrive from all over Italy, four special trains and a ship from Sardinia.
"Our aim" - explain the organizers - "is to challenge the Berlusconian culture." They do not want any political support, although Italy of Values, Refounded Communist party and Italian Communists have given their official support. The Pd (Democratic party) does not officially endorsed the event, even if later, on Saturday, there will be many of its supporters in the square. On stage, ensure the organizers, there won't be any politicians.
At the end of the parade some actors such as Dario Fo and Franca Rame, Moni Ovadia and Ascanio Celestini but also some judge as Domenico Gallo (described as a "democratic jurist") will talk to the audience.
"It is not a challenge," assures Gianfranco Mascia, among the promoters, but "a celebration of families, youth, music." On stage there will also be Salvatore Borsellino and some workers of Eutelia and the demonstration will end with a concert of Roberto Vecchioni and Dj Ax.
Who could not be in Rome but will like to see the event must then try to see Rainews24, now clearly seen by only 30% of the Italian population, or try the live streaming on the Internet, if the internet connection allows it. The website Unità will follow the event and will do the same YouDem, PdCITV in addition to www.noberlusconiday.org where everything was started.
To frame the opening banner "Berlusconi's resignation", there will be then the cameras of France, Germany, Switzerland and Japan that have already applied for the accreditation.
Rai (the italian State television) will be far away from the event, "sacrificed on the altar of public censorship", as the Italy of Values MEP Luigi de Magistris said, and it will prefer not to change the usual soporific programming of the Saturday afternoon.
